DREAMS CAN COME TRUE
The David Beckham Academy in London represents the fulfilment of a dream.
When he was just 11 years old David entered a Blue Peter competition and won a trip to the Bobby Charlton Soccer School in Manchester- it was there that his journey to soccer stardom began.
"As a young boy, I attended the Bobby Charlton Soccer School with dreams of becoming a professional footballer,” says David, “The experience changed my life as I learnt from the best coaches and got to meet football heroes such as Bobby Charlton."
David went on to play for Manchester United, Real Madrid and England, but he still had another ambition to fulfil. He has always wanted to give children the same chance that he had: with the David Beckham Academy, he has an opportunity to give something back to the game he loves.
"That dream is now a reality with the opening of the first David Beckham Academy in my home city of London. I want children to experience the joy of playing the greatest game in the world and to learn from some of the best coaches in the game. I hope that it will be a unique experience for many children and one that will stay with them for the rest of their lives."
After launching both the London and Los Angeles Academies in 2005, the next destination is likely to be Asia; it looks like the dream has only just begun….
